Deuteronomy 4:29-31

29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him.

31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

Compass Devotion

A compass is a great tool. It helps us with navigating unfamiliar terrain and keeps us from getting lost. It’s also important to have a map when using a compass.

I remember as a kid growing up backpacking in the Appalachian mountains. I would be out for days with my family and there are many times in those mountains that we would get turned around, lost, and didn’t know where we were going in that very unfamiliar terrain. It could be scary especially the times we’ve been caught in crazy downpours and stuck in our tents.

Growing up in the 80s we didn’t have phones all we had was our map and compass. If we only had a map that wouldn’t have helped when we got lost because we would’ve had no determination as to what direction we were going but with a compass we knew that it would always point north therefore we could determine exactly where we are and which direction we need to go to get back.

The compass itself only has one function, it points to true North. It lets us know when we are veering off our path or going the wrong direction and a map is a blueprint, a layout of the land that lets us read the terrain and know what lies ahead. These tools together allow us to determine where we are and understand where we need to go.

The compass reminds us that we are to point and keep our eyes fixed to true North. Keeping our eyes fixed on God always help us. The way we are no doubt going to get lost we are no doubt going to need to re-center ourselves and get re-focused so we are always pointed to God.

The Bible is our map and blueprint that was given to us. It allows us to better know our God, and to have a blueprint and lay out for life.

Knowing God and having his word allows us to get redirected when we get lost. Have you ever been lost? Are there times that you need to be redirected? How was your relationship with God? Is there anything we can pray for?

The Bible reminds us that we are to find our true North that points to God. We will no doubt, get lost, and veer off our trails of life, but without having God in our life, we would not have our true north.

For where 2 or 3 gather in my name, I am with them! Matthew 18:20
